Preserving the past

A couple weeks ago a lady stopped into the shop and asked if I could make a pendants from broken china. She went on to explain that it was her grandmothers china and would like to have pendants made for the women in the family. What a cool idea, I thought, and immediately accepted the challenge. In addition to my painting I have enjoy re-purposing things and breathing new life into something once cherished or perhaps destined for the bin. She returned to my studio within a few minutes and presented me with the broken china that held so many memories for her. She explained that there may be other projects she would want to do with the remnants, and asked me to reserve the unused portions. I chipped and nipped the pieces into shape I finished the edges to a smooth finish and finally wrapped in copper wire. Finishing five pieces in all just in time for Christmas. The process took a while , but well worth the time.
