SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED

Some things you just don't talk about, well over a moment of clarity we recognize how ridiculous morning regimes can become after one turns sixty or suffer injury. We just had to laugh, and in turn share. Note, Steve gave me permission to share – he said if we cant laugh at ourselves, then what hope is there. Smile in the face of adversity....that is what we always say.

Most people are able to pop out of bed in the morning and after a quick shower, comb through hair, brush teeth they are out the door. Not my husband, there is some assembly required. He recently broke his leg, while on vacation and is now sporting a walking cast- which had rubbed a blister on his foot- so out come the callus pads to relieve the pressure, need one on the other foot to match just for good measure, add a digital prosthetic wedge to raise his toe- because part of the bone was removed that caused a pressure point – blame Rheumatoid Arthritis. All this done, time for medication which consists of a handful of about 8 pills that cover high blood pressure, prostate, cholesterol, glucose levels etc.- yummy! Now, Eye drops- tear ducts were burned out in Vietnam, Glasses with prismatic lenses- to avoid seeing double, from head injury....Vietnam, three additional solutions of eye drops three minutes apart, to aid in the recovery of a recent cataract surgery- only have to do that for two more weeks. Clean the hearing aids( perforated ear -drum......explosion in Vietnam) add batteries- insert. “ Say something.,”.....he says. “ I love you,” I say. Adjust. “ Again,” he says. I say, “ Can you hear me now?” I laugh. Sound check now over, grabs his cane-for balance, equilibrium screwed up from lack of fluid in ear- from guess what ….. perforated eardrum, Almost done , now to check glucose.......oops, a little low, grabs an orange juice- finally coffee time. Replace prismatic lenses with reading glasses while checking email. Another cup of coffee, time to go do errands, put prismatic lenses back on add the -super fashionable- post op cataract surgery- sun glasses , grab insulin kit and out the door. Its that easy.

All this and he smiles and laughs. Something to think about.
