You are aware of them, those people that just make you laugh, think, scowl or just throw up your hands in surrender- it was, "That guy!" You may not know their name, but their story impacts you and somehow finds a way into future conversations.
Steve,AKA, Doc- has been now deemed....... "That Guy!"
There are too many stories for this moment, but if you ever hear a story about, "That Guy", it very well, may be Steve who was the star. This, is a true story about one of his antics that perhaps may have landed him just a little more notoriety.
Steve had cataract surgery in Kansas City on Thursday- we decide to spend the night at Harrah's Casino. It makes sense because he has a follow up appointment the next day- so we reduce travel time and have a bit of fun, maybe a bit too much. After taking our bags to the room and a short rest, Steve climbs onto his motorized scooter because of his broken leg and we head downstairs for dinner. As we board the elevator he catches a glimpse of himself in the wall to wall mirrors. The very fashion forward post op sunglasses - black as night, stare back at him, he lets out a little giggle and then proceeds to do a Stevie Wonder impression - with head weaving, vocals and air piano action- the whole bit. " I JUST CALLED....TO SAY.....I LOVE YOU, I JUST CALLED TO SAY..............How much I care." Oblivious to the door opening behind him when we stop at the next floor he is caught in full action by a demur lady dressed for success. She smiles slightly, caught off guard, I apologize through my laughter and tell her she caught him doing a Stevie Wonder impression and explain he just had cataract surgery-'" Its the glasses, ya know". She giggles again, stifles it slightly, and she giggles again, all this on a short ride from the 5th floor to the lobby. Gotta have a little fun, I explain. Right before we get to the lobby I point out, " There is Nothing worse than a blind guy on a scooter." At this point she breaks out in a full belly laugh as we arrive at the lobby. We wish her a good day confident Steve will be forever remembered as, "That Guy! " not a bad legacy.
( This year for his birthday- I designed this shirt for him - he couldn't help but laugh because of the story I had written about "That Guy" several months before." )
